About
I am currently working as the Executive Officer (Professional Services) for the History Teachers' Association of New South Wales (HTANSW). I've been in this role full-time since 2021 and prior to that worked part-time for HTANSW after leaving a permanent secondary teaching role in the NSW Department of Education.
In 2021 I completed an MA research thesis in History through the Australian Centre for the Study of Armed Conflict and Society (UNSW, Canberra). The thesis examined the life of a NSW school teacher who served in the Second AIF in Malaya and Thailand (1940 – 45) and returned to participate in some of the most important educational developments of Australia's post-war era.
Over the past decade, I have written and contributed to thirteen books including: Conflict in the Pacific, Conflict in Indochina: 1954 – 1979, Russia and the USSR, 1917 – 41 and Teaching Secondary History (see 'Publications' page for more). My latest book for history teachers is Teaching History: A Practical Guide for Secondary School Teachers (Amba Press) which can be purchased here.
I also currently teach History Methods education classes at the University of New South Wales (Sydney) and the University of Wollongong and I have also taught at the University of Sydney.

The main point of this site is to share my work and make contact with those who are also interested in History and History education in schools. I am currently working on several projects with teachers and scholars in Europe and Southeast Asia who are interested in the past and future of History education. This site has already been crucial for me in establishing contact with people I would not have otherwise connected with, so please feel free to get in touch if you are interested in my work or are exploring similar issues and are interested in collaboration.
